About Us

The Hornsea Third Marathon is organised by The Rotary Club of Hornsea and East Riding with the sole aim of raising funds for charity. The club is very active in raising money for good causes and this event is our 'Blue Ribbon' event and demands a huge effort from all club members, all of whom thoroughly enjoy the day and some actually compete.

The Club was formed in 1992 and meets weekly a the Hornsea Golf Club on Monday evenings at 7pm.

We are in area 11, Humber Maritine Group, part of Rotary District International 1040 which straddles the Humber, includes the whole of North and West Yorkshire and part of East Yorkshire, extending from the border with the Lake District, in the West, to the coast in the East.

The Objective of Rotary is:

To encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  1. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service.
  2. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarians occupation as an opportunity to serve society.
  3. The application of the ideal of services in each Rotarian’s personal, and community life.
  4. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world-fellowship of business and professional people initiated in the ideal of service.

A Yardstick for living

Since the 1940s many Rotarians have been using as a criterion in their business community and personal affairs a simple 24-word statement know as The 4-Way Test.
Recognised as an appropriate message in Vocational Service, it does not provide answers but asks four simple questions.

The 4-Way Test of the things we thing say , or do is as follows;

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned.
